Just in the nick of time, I finished one of this year's major holiday projects. Making an advent calendar. I've been looking at advent calendar's for years, and just have never found one I've loved. The sewn ones are cute, but often had pockets that were too small. Commercial ones were just blah, and paper ones with chocolate inside (while they do remind me of German class) just weren't cutting it. So I took a bunch of things I liked about advent calendars (variable size pockets, clean lines, holiday activities and trinkets, and convenient to store) and combined them all into one of my own making. The project did get a bit out of control, I'll admit (did not expect to spend $75 at Michaels!) but I'm really pretty pleased with the outcome. There's no waste, my calendar is reusable year after year, and it will store just swell in one small box in our apartment when it's taken apart (each box has a magnet on the back, and they stick to a silver magnet board I got at Ikea last year).
I haven't found a spot yet for it on one of our walls, but otherwise, it's ready to go. Yahoo for December! Now if I can just find the motivation to get the rest of this place decorated.
