Getting It Done

It's hard to believe my 4 months of being unemployed have gone by this quickly. Returning to the working world is going to be bittersweet. Before I head back though, I had a few things on my list that I wanted to complete. One of them was finishing a vacation travel album. The book got more than 3/4 done over the course of the last 2 years during various "scrapbook weekends," but there were still a few remaining pages nagging me. This weekend, I decided it was time to lay that to rest.
Making a scrapbook for me is a very personal thing. First off, I'm perfectionist as hell. So when I don't like the layout, or don't like the pictures, feeling creative enough to complete a page is really tough. I mean, it's my LIFE I'm putting down in that book. There's no do-overs just because I don't like my handwriting or a picture is crooked. Second, scrapbooks are really emotional for me. I love looking back at a page from 5 years ago, and not only thinking about what was going on in my life during that time, but also how I felt creating the page and revisiting those memories. I'm happy to say this album turned out really pretty well, despite getting a bit out of control size-wise. Apparently I travel a lot!
This book is as thick as my phone is tall!
The current vacation album is dated from 2004 through 2009, and left off just after I completed our Wedding/Honeymoon album. It's crazy looking back through all the Mister's and my combined trips; New York, Chicago, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Miami, Europe, California, and various trips throughout Michigan and Ohio. I've posted a few of my favorite highlights below. Notice New York in one of the early trips. Still hard to believe New York is now our reality. :-)
Vacations from 2004-2009. Even our luggage has changed!
New York in early 2005
Chicago for a girl's weekend in late 2005
A high school friends wedding trip in May 2008
Girl's weekend, September 2008
Germany - April 2009
Paris - April 2009 (my absolute favorite page)
Belgium - April 2009
Belgium & France - April 2009
California - September 2009
Driving down Highway 1 in CA - September 2009
Obviously there are more pages I've left out than I've shared, but I think these glimpses are a pretty good indication of what the book holds. I'm really glad I was able to complete it before I head back to work. Hopefully the motivation gives me a head start on creating the next volume of the vacation album for 2010's trips, and starting work on a "Home" album.

The fact that that didn't take you 10 years to finish, considering the size and the precision of every perfectly square and even page layout... Impressive! Go you!!! I want to see the whole thing NOW! Come visit and bring it :) PS Yeah wine trip! Yeah Hotel Mayet! xo
