Becoming one with Nature

This weekend the weather finally started to turn nice in Michigan. Yeah! Spring might actually be on it's way. I'll take it even if it does mean now I've got to put up with a few weeks of April rain.
Saturday started off a beautiful 65 degree sunny day. I met my friend Liz to check out the Indie Craft Revival. It was held at the Magic Stick in Detroit on Woodward, and although it wasn't quite as big as I was expecting, it was full of super cute stuff. Go crafters! I picked up this fun spring purse (oh no, Victoria Velting has competition) and this adorable little lavender scented beaver for my underroo drawer.

The craft fair unfortunately didn't take that long though, so Liz and I decided afterward to hit up the Belle Isle Conservatory. Neither of us had been before, and since it was such a lovely day, it just felt right. It was warm and sunny and full of fresh oxygen inside, and because we just happened to be in the right place at the right time, admission was free that day! We had an awesome time checking out the flora and fauna, despite the creepy run-in with the "2000 year old man who came back from the Ether" in the Fern room. I highly suggest that guy lay off the drugs for a while.

In keeping with the "love nature" vibe and to help celebrate Earth Day, I met up Sunday afternoon with Kristal, Birgit, and Callie to volunteer at the Miller Nature preserve. We spent a few hours pulling Dame's rocket and garlic mustard (very invasive species') from the woods surrounding the park. It wasn't particularly difficult work, but at times, I felt totally overwhelmed. There was just so much of it, how would we ever be able to get rid of if all? Thankfully we didn't have to, as we were just a few of over 50+ volunteers. The garlic mustard still runs rampant, but I think we made a sizable dent in it's spread.

I'm so disappointed in Seth. He let the scented beaver go unacknowledged? :)

A thousand apologies Ms. Somerville. I actually had not read this entry yet.

I think the best part is that the scented beaver is going in her underroo drawer of all places, tee hee hee.
