Is it spring...or summer?

The weather has been just so confusing around here lately. We went from 50's and cold clammy weather last week, to over 80 degrees this past weekend. 80+ degrees! Can you imagine? I can't; as it was just too stinkin' hot for me. So hot in fact, that I got my first sunburn of the year (it was unintentional, I swear), and spent some time over the weekend nursing myself with ice cream.
What's this I speak of ice cream? Well, it's not really ice cream, but soy cream. Something I discovered at Trader Joes a few months back, and have been obsessed with ever since. This weekend's heat wave seemed like the appropriate time to blog about it awesomeness. At first I thought ice cream made of soy was too good to be true. Wouldn't it taste chalky? Not sweet enough? But alas, TJ's soy creamy has exceeded all my expectations. My favorite variety happens to be the chocolate chip cherry version, but TJ's also has a mango swirl, a plain chocolate, and a plain vanilla. I haven't tried any of the others, but I'm not hearing good things about the chocolate or the vanilla. I'm also not a huge fan of mango, but for those that like it, I hear that one is pretty good. Not nearly as good as the cherry chip though. ;-) To really enjoy it's creamy goodness, I took it one step further. I combined my love of cherries and chocolate, with my love of all things almond. You must give this a try. I promise it's creamy and delicious, and maybe even a tad refreshing on a hot summer day.
Windmill Almondy goodnessWho knew soy tasted so good?Tasty dessert
But wait, windmill's and ice cream aside for a minute, isn't it only April? Aren't we supposed to have showers and tulips? Well, in another strange twist of events, my tulips have not yet bloomed (what's up tulips? Do I not care for you enough? Do you not like my hard as a rock clay soil?). Yet despite the tulips not even being up, we already have a robin taking residence and laying eggs in our tree! This made me particularly emotional yesterday, as I remembered robin's making nests in the pine tree at my childhood home. I don't have the greatest memories of time spent growing up at my house in Rochester Hills, MI, so it makes it that much more important to be reminded of one of the few remaining good things. Plus I think there was that whole "look at me, I'm a big girl now" aspect when I realized that not only was I old enough to still have those memories, but I was having them in my own home that Brad and I bought all by ourselves. Talk about a "grown-up" moment. That's all part of the circle of life I suppose.
Peekaboo, I see youSuch a cute little nest!
So there you have it. I'm still perplexed. Is it summer in April? Has global warming really confused our seasons in MI this much? At least it hasn't started snowing again. Guess I'll just have to keep checking the weather report to make some sense of it all.
