City Life Comings and Goings

Now that I've posted about the move and the apartment, many of you have been asking just how I've been spending my time! The apartment is clean, and we don't have any stuff, so clearly I'm not consumed with organization. Here's an idea of what I've been up to.
  • I got my new library card at the Brooklyn Library. There are branches all over the city, but this is the central library. I feel like I need to sign a declaration or something when I go inside; it reminds me of Washington D.C. for some reason.
  • I took the subway many places to wander around. This is our stop. Having a subway stop makes me smile.
  • I went to Ikea to look for curtains (no such luck; they were out of what I wanted) and got lost a few times trying to navigate stations and stops. Once actually at Ikea, I did get some delicious mac and cheese from the cafeteria, and check out the view! You don't get that ambiance in Canton.
  • I wandered around my new city walking past restaurants and bodegas, taking mental notes of the places I wanted to return to. I purchased my first official copy of Time Out New York (TONY) and later that night, signed up for a subscription. That's a big step in becoming a real New Yorker! I also ate a falafel in my wanderings. Still not nearly as good as Jerusalem Gardens, but it did have fun hot sauce on it.
  • I found a super cute store filled with fun NY things. I purchased this guide to the markets of NY, which seems chalk full of fun tips and tricks. I then promptly went the next morning to the Grand Army Plaza Farmer's market.
  • The Mister and I brunched at Steak Frites before heading to watch the Michigan game with friends on Saturday. We were a little drunk. Brunching is a very New York thing, and unlimited mimosa's just makes that better.
  • We wandered The High Line with friends at dusk. It was beautifully lit up at night, and I think I'll head back during the day sometime just to see the difference. A fun little almost 2 mile walk for sure. Plus, "Look Lis, it's the Empire State Building!" (An inside Seth joke dating back almost 12 years now)
  • We headed into the madness that is Mario Batali's new venture, Eataly. Let's just say I enjoyed myself. I went a little crazy purchasing things, but how could I not in a market that carries watermelon radishes!!!! This is definately on my list of places to take friends when they visit.

All in all, I'm not gonna lie, I've been having a crazy good time. This city has so much to offer and I am more than excited to take it all in. I miss my friends and family dearly, but having these great adventures is dulling the pain considerably. I'll be radio silenced for a few days now as the Mister and I enjoy our long weekend together. We've got plans to head to the Governor's Island Street Vendor festival, catch a movie, check out Trader Joe's in an attempt to stock our empty fridge, and then wait out the arrival of our furniture delivery. Now, come visit so you can adventure with me!

I'm so excited for you! Love every last detail! Keep em coming.

But lest you think you're becoming unmissed, I choke up every new post. Still in denial! :)
